A pair of supergroups took the stage on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, and while Them Crooked Vultures were the episode’s musical guest, it was Crisis of Conformity — fake reuniting for the first time in 25 years to play a wedding — that delivered the night’s most memorable performance. Featuring SNL’s Fred Armisen on vocals, Bill Hader on bass, Ashton Kutcher on guitar and the Vultures’ Dave Grohl on drums, the hardcore quartet turned the peaceful reception into a “TV Party” with a brutal rendition of “Fist Fight in the Parking Lot.” After the mellow but admittedly amusing Michael Bublé guested last week, a little hardcore was just the shot in the arm SNL needed. For Grohl, it was his second noteworthy appearance in a recent SNL sketch: When the Foo Fighters were the musical guest back in 2007, Grohl was one of Andy Samberg’s victims in the hilarious “People Getting Punched Just Before Eating” digital short.
Check out a history of supergroups in photos.
Them Crooked Vultures performed a pair of tracks from their self-titled debut album, and sadly their combined supergroup powers couldn’t overcome SNL’s infamous sound woes. Josh Homme’s vocals get lost in the mix on “New Fang,” and the 30 Rock version of “Mind Eraser” doesn’t really do the band’s extraordinary live shows justice. Watch both performances below:

Britney Spears had some errands to run yesterday afternoon in Calabasas, Calif. For Britney, errands mean getting Starbucks fix before heading over to the salon.
Of course, this being Britney, she managed once again to set off rumors that she is engaged to Jason Trawick, wearing a big ol’ diamond on her left ring finger …
Britney was in good spirits despite the rain. It was also cold. [Photos: Fame]
What do you think? Did Jason Trawick put a ring on it? Or is that just one of many from Britney’s vast collection? We’d put our money on the latter, sadly.
Perhaps one day, Jason will become the third Mr. Britney Spears, but the two have weathered some cheating rumors (not just engagement rumors) lately.
Better to take it slow for the time being.

First of all, I can’t believe “Elvis,” the 1979 biopic starring Kurt Russell as the iconic star, has never been released on DVD yet.
Second, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, now is the perfect time. There have been countless films, TV specials, books and biographies about the King of Rock ‘n Roll, but none of them even come close to the magic of “Elvis,” being released on DVD by Shout! Factory to coincide with the 75th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s birth (75!). It hits store and cyber shelves on March 2, 2010.
Much of that magic comes from the collaboration between director John Carpenter and star Kurt Russell. Watching Russell do those hip moves and put on those blue suede shoes, you’ll think you’re actually watching the King himself. Kurt Russell is awesome.
“Elvis,” which chronicles the singer’s life from poverty-stricken childhood to super-stardom, snagged a Golden Globe nomination and multiple Emmy nominations, including one for Kurt Russell as Outstanding Lead Actor. It also features country music hitmaker Ronnie McDowell, who re-creates Presley’s signature vocals.
More after the jump, including a trailer and pics…
Also featured are Shelley Winters as Elvis’ mother Gladys; Season Hubley as his wife Priscilla; Kurt Russell’s real-life father Bing Russell as Elvis’s father Vernon Presley; Pat Hingle as Colonel Tom Parker; Robert Gray as Red West; Golden Globe nominee Joe Mantegna as Memphis mafia member Joe Esposito; and Golden Globe nominee Ed Begley Jr. as D.J. Fontana.
DVD Bonus Features:
- “Bringing A Legend To Life” Featurette With Archival Interviews Of Kurt Russell And John Carpenter (1979)
- Commentary By “The Voice Of Elvis” Ronnie McDowell And Author Edie Hand
- Rare Clips From American Bandstand
- Photo Gallery
Check out the trailer…

He was one of the most successful, memorable celebrities of 2009.
Therefore, it was only appropriate that Adam Lambert put on a show to close out his first year in the spotlight.
The American Idol runner-up did just that in Hollywood last night, rocking out at Paramount Studios and ringing in 2010 with fans (and Pamela Anderson, apparently).
Don’t worry: no crotches were grabbed, oral sex simulated or animals harmed during the performance. Check out pictures from it below:

After weeks of emotional interviews and promotional appearances, Rihanna was finally able to clown around on network television this weekend during her musical guest stint on Saturday Night Live, co-starring with Andy Samberg in the SNL Digital Short “Shy Ronnie.” In the clip above, watch as Rihanna and Shy Ronnie shoot a music video in a 1st grade classroom, with Rihanna using her robotic coo to tell Shy Ronnie that he’s holding the microphone too close to his mouth and alert the audience that he had in fact urinated himself. “Shoulda just paid Kanye, bye Shy Ronnie,” Rihanna sings as she exits the classroom.
Rihanna’s fierce fashions: check out photos of the star onstage and off.
In previous SNL wrap-ups, Rolling Stone has noted that the Rockefeller Center stage has been kinder to rockers than pop acts, and apparently Rihanna got that memo as the singer came to Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively-hosted episode backed by a powerhouse eight-piece rock band for her performances of Rated R’s “Hard” and “Russian Roulette.” The added oomph behind Rihanna led to an extra heavy metal version of “Hard,” which featured Young Jeezy. Rihanna’s army of guitars also enlivened “Russian Roulette” as the singer wore medieval chain mail fashionably around her head. Check out the performance of “Hard” below:

After a disastrous summer tour marred by long simmering internal tensions, injuries, and poor ticket sales, it appears that Aerosmith and frontman Steven Tyler may be parting ways. “Steven quit as far as I can tell,” guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun late last week. “I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever.” Perry said he and his fellow Aerosmith band mates usually have “no contact” with Tyler.
Following a November 1st gig in front of 50,000 in Abu Dhabi, the band had become so frustrated Tyler — who recently hired his own manager and began working on his first solo album — that guitarist Brad Whitford spoke openly about touring with a new singer. “Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him — he’s one of a kind,” Whitford said to a British reporter. “But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?” Perry, meanwhile, wouldn’t confirm whether they’d proceed with a different singer. “I really don’t know what path it’s going to take at this point,” he told the Sun, “but we’ll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we’ll be able to move the Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch.”
For years, Perry and Tyler — who co-wrote most of Aerosmith’s hits — have been unable to agree on a direction for the band’s music. As a result, it’s been nearly a decade since the group released an album of new material, despite repeated stints in the studio. “[We] haven’t written a song together alone in the same room in over ten years, so there’s been some changes in paradigm of what Aerosmith is,” Perry said to the AP in September. Tyler wants more slick, pop-rock hits like 2000’s “Jaded,” while Perry is still fighting for the harder, bluesy sound of their Seventies records. (Perry is currently on the road in support of a new solo album.) Of 2001’s Just Push Play, Perry told Rolling Stone recently, “Sometimes I listen to that record, and I’m not sure that it’s my band. All I want to do is make a record that sounds like Aerosmith.” In June, Perry told Rolling Stone that he was excited about his solo set. “I could play you three things right now and you’d go ‘dude, what was that?!’” he said.

This summer’s injury-plagued amphitheater tour — three different band members were hospitalized during the trek — only seemed to make tensions worse. Tyler suffered two major injuries: After the first, an unspecified onstage leg injury in July, Tyler said the band’s management asked him to perform in a wheelchair. “I just wouldn’t do it,” Tyler told Rolling Stone. Then, Tyler fell off of the stage during a show in South Dakota on August 6th, breaking his shoulder and requiring twenty stitches to his head. The tour was cancelled, and ten days later, Tyler — who has struggled with addiction for decades and was in rehab as recently as last year — was photographed buying alcohol in Massachusetts. Tyler told Rolling Stone that the liquor was for a close friend’s funeral. “I did not buy any for myself,” Tyler said. “It was for the wake, I would do it over and over a million times.”
Neither Perry nor Tyler responded to requests for comment.
