NCISNCIS: Los Angeles — a spinoff of the popular NCIS has seen amazing ratings since kicking off this fall on CBS.

According to Nielsen ratings for the week of Oct. 12-18, the original NCIS was the top rated show of the week bringing in 21.04 million viewers. NCIS: Los Angeles was rated No. 4 bringing in 15.38 million viewers, only behind NFL Sunday Night Football and Dancing with the Stars.

The only other new show this season to make the top 20 was The Good Wife, which airs after NCIS: Los Angeles, ranked No. 17 with 12.98 million viewers. This has been pretty typical this season for NCIS: Los Angeles, which stars LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell, and The Good Wife, which stars Juliana Marguiles.

Here is the episode description for tonight’s episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, “Killshot”: A defense contractor is killed, and the team fears that his classified-software secrets are lost until they find a suspect, whom they also discover is connected to Vance’s past.

If you watch NCIS: Los Angeles, do you like it better than the original? Or do you enjoy watching back-to-back episodes of your favorite shows?

NCIS: Los Angeles airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

98019_D1868b.jpgCBS has given full season orders to NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife, the top two new series of the 2009-2010 fall TV season.

Amazingly, NCIS: Los Angeles has become the No. 1 new program of the season and ranked second among all prime time programs, averaging 17.47 million viewers, 4.1/11 in adults 18-49 and 5.6/13 in adults 25-54 over its three broadcasts.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES has won its Tuesday (9 to 10 p.m. ET/PT) time period in viewers and adults 25-54 every week this season and placed first in adults 18-49 twice.

The Good Wife, the No. 2 new series of the season, is averaging 13.70 million viewers, 3.0/8 in adults 18-49 and 4.2/11 in adults 25-54, winning its Tuesday (10 to 11 p.m. ET/PT) time period in all key measures every week.

NCIS: Los Angeles, the new NCIS spinoff starring Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J, is following in the footsteps of NCIS, which drew 21.37 million viewers last week. I think people are liking having one of their favorite shows followed by the spinoff on the same night — giving them two hours of entertainment. Plus, Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J – pretty awesome.

The Good Wife is Julianna Marguiles’ new legal drama show. This is good news for Marguiles, whose past legal drama Canterbury’s Law was cancelled almost out of the running gate in 2008. I think The Good Wife has a good backstory with her politician husband’s discretions throwing her life in a whirlwind while trying to re-enter the very competitive law field.

Last year, the hottest new show of fall was The Mentalist, also on CBS.

Josh Hartnett Actor Josh Hartnett might be playing the Night Stalker of Los Angeles – if true crime writer Philip Carlo has anything to say about it, that is.

His book, The Night Stalker: The Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez,” has just been optioned by Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell and his producing partner (and brother-in-law) Nick Karaylannis.

Mickey Rourke, who attended Carlo’s book party last week at the Greenwich Hotel, will play the main character, and Carlo has said he’d like Hartnett for the other lead character.

Carlo was diagnosed with ALS in 2004, but has written two books since then, including The Butcher: Anatomy of a Mafia Psychopath.”

Sounds like an interesting project, especially with Rourke and Hartnett in the lead roles. The two worked together on 2005’s Sin City.”

Trent Reznor came to Los Angeles to end it all. Two decades after releasing his first Nine Inch Nails album, Reznor brought the band’s life as a touring act to a close Thursday with a sweeping three-hour concert at the Wiltern Theater, erupting with sounds intense and emotional from throughout his career for a full house of more than 2,200 fans.

He ended NIN at full power, not nostalgic but fully engaged, and still an important contemporary act long after the band’s ’90s breakout. Reznor led guitarist Robin Finck, bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen and drummer Ilan Rubin through a 38-song set that mingled their best-known work with songs from The Slip, released in May as a free download, returning the band to the brooding, ambitious sounds explored to epic proportions on 1999’s The Fragile.

Photos from Nine Inch Nails’ last-ever live show.

“This is it,” Reznor said early in the set, and added during the night’s third encore: “We’re not going to tour anymore as Nine Inch Nails, but we’re all still going to be making music.”

The big room was already sweltering and filled with fog by the time the lights went down and Reznor stepped up to the microphone, lunging forward and clutching his mike stand as desperately as ever for “Somewhat Damaged.” He raged across the layers of industrial noise and melody: “Poisoned to my rotten core / Too fucked up to care anymore!”

There was no “Closer,” but the night delivered a generous selection from the range of NIN’s recorded work. Songs raged and flowed from one to the next as if from a single piece of music, a consistent vision across decades holding the night together. Fans shouted along to lyrics of loathing and release during “March of the Pigs,” and Reznor fell to one knee, rising with arms wide open to sing the song’s sudden moment of melodic clarity amid the noise: “Now, doesn’t that make you feel better?”

The Wiltern concert came at the end of NIN’s “Wave Goodbye” tour and its concluding series of farewell gigs in Los Angeles, where Reznor now lives after a dozen years in New Orleans. He brought several guests onstage for the occasion, beginning with pianist Mike Garson, known for his ’70s work with David Bowie and later with NIN on The Fragile. He stayed for several songs, including a solo instrumental run on “Down in the Park.”

He was followed by electronic pioneer Gary Numan, a profound influence on Reznor from his days growing up in “a cornfield in Pennsylvania.” They did three songs together, with Numan as lead vocalist on a searing “Metal” and “I Die: You Die.” Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro unfurled a quick, furious solo on “Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now).”

During the second of NIN’s three encores, the band was joined onstage by members of Dillinger Escape Plan, who share Reznor’s appetite for chaos and destruction, smashing instruments and nearly teetering off the stage during “Mr. Self Destruct.” Near the end, things quieted down for a moment as Reznor sang a haunted, sorrowful “Hurt” to Finck’s acoustic guitar, reinventing a career-defining standard of pain and disgust for a live audience desperate to hear it one last time.
