Over a year after the release of Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak, the video for the album’s penultimate track “Coldest Winter,” Kanye’s take on Tears for Fears’ “Memories Fade,” debuted this morning on director Nabil Elderkin’s Vimeo page. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Elderkin, who helmed 808s‘ “Paranoid” and “Welcome to Heartbreak” videos as well, also photographed Kanye’s massive Glow in the Dark tour and released a book of stunning images from the show. The video for “Coldest Winter” depicts a young woman running through a darkened forest as hooded creatures that look like those soul-sucking specters from the Harry Potter films pursue her. West does not appear in the video.

“It’s pretty minimalistic,” Elderkin told MTV. “It’s slow and very visual. I just wanted to catch the vibe of the song and not get too literal. Because the lyrics are very close to Kanye and go much deeper than the video goes, obviously hearing the song you know it’s very emotional.” Like the video for “Paranoid,” the “Coldest Winter” clip features a new mix of the song, making the soundtrack of the video gloomier and more foreboding than the version that originally appeared on 808s. The video is available for purchase now on iTunes.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, director Spike Jonze teamed with West to create an awesome short film called “We Were Once a Fairytale” using 808s‘ “See You In My Nightmares.”

Rumor has it that Kanye West has been barred from lending a helping hand in the Hope For Haiti Now telethon that airs tonight.

Despite what you may have heard, the rapper hasn’t been barred from helping Haiti, he just wasn’t vocal about joining the cause.

A source said, “Not true. Telethon organizers took the first people to come to us…on the phone bank and in the singers and presenters.”

An MTV rep said that he was invited, however. A source close to Kanye said, “The report is absolutely false. MTV talent executives involved with booking the telethon contacted Kanye’s management and label about having him perform. Unfortunately, he is unavailable and regrettably unable to participate.”

The telethon airs tonight on most network television stations at 8PM EST.

Rumor has it that Kanye West won’t be bugging Taylor Swift again at the Grammys anytime soon, because he’s been banned!

TrueSlant has more:

What’s missing from that equation? West has a prominent role in “Forever” – but is conspicuously absent from the lineup. Grammy representatives haven’t yet clued us in on why West isn’t included on the list.

Expect an all caps fueled rant from Kanye in 3….2….1.

Actually, he’ll probably say that he’s not going because he wasn’t nominated.

Excuse us, Kanye. We’re gonna let you wear that outfit, but we just have to say:

Fur is one of the all-time worst things you can wear. One of the all-time worst!

The rapper and weird girlfriend Amber Rose have ignored the pleas of naked, D-list celebrities everywhere and continued to don their animal-murdering coats.

Earlier this week, they were spotted in these outfits at the Louis Vutton fashion show in Paris. The killing of God’s creatures aside, the attire simply looks ridiculous, doesn’t it? Chime in with your take below…

Friends with Fur

What do you think of Kanye and Amber’s coats?

kanye-west-2After embarrassing himself at the MTV Awards where he disrupted Taylor Swift’s speech to be a general asshat of all asshats, in fact the KING of all asshattery, Kanye West just keeps on going. And going.

In his latest blog post, Kanye wants us all to know that he’s “just getting better with age”, and that his work will improve with time. Really? How many millions of years will it take for your personality to improve? Because I’m thinking that the earth will fall into the sun by that time.

Here’s what he wrote, you know, because we all need to hear his pearls of wisdom:

“It’s funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out, but true poets get better,” he writes, saying he’ll follow in the footsteps of poet Maya Angelou, spoken word soul performer Gil Scott-Heron (whose name West misspells) and jazz musician/civil rights activist Nina Simone.

“Their work improved with time,” West writes. “They documented what was happening in culture. That is our responsibility as the modern day artists and poets, to accurately represent what is happening now, so when the powers that be try to rewrite history you can always look at our works and find truth and sincerity in a world of processed information.”

I can’t believe that he SERIOUSLY compared himself to Maya Angelou. Up until now he’s just been a funny douchebag, but now he’s a pus-filled hemorroid on the butt of humanity. Really, you just have to laugh at this guy; anyone who thinks that much of himself is just beneath serious consideration.

In his first blog post of the new decade, Kanye West revealed he’s back in the studio working on new music. West also expressed a desire to avoid the usual career trajectory of a hip-hop star, writing, “It’s funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out but true poets get better. We will follow in the footsteps of Maya Angelou, Gill Scott Herron [sic] and Nina Simone. Their work improved with time.”

Behind the scenes with Kanye West: shots from his Glow in the Dark tour.

Last year was a shaky one for West, and he spent more time making headlines than actual music. The highlight, or lowlight, came when he infamously rushed the stage at the 2009 MTV VMAs to interrupt Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech. The aftermath of that stunt possibly led to the cancellation of West’s Fame Kills tour with Lady Gaga. With all the negative press last year, West writes that he hopes his art is remembered for “accurately representing what is happening now” in culture. “Let us look past headlines and deal with just a bit of reality in this new decade. We have our own outlets now. We don’t have to believe everything anymore,” West writes.

For West’s full blog post — presented lower cased and spell checked courtesy of RS — keep reading.

First of all, I want to thank everybody for their constant love and support over these past 6 years! I’m so happy to be back in the studio making new music. I will bring you the best I have to offer with the same dedication that Kobe has on the court. It’s funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out but true poets get better. We will follow in the footsteps of Maya Angelou, Gil Scott-Heron and Nina Simone. Their work improved with time. They documented what was happening in culture. That is our responsibility as the modern day artists and poets, to accurately represent what is happening now, so when the powers that be try to rewrite history you can always look at our works and find truth and sincerity in a world of processed information. Let us soak in positive forces and look down on upon those who masquerade as truth tellers and objective fact givers when in reality everything that is projected has an agenda of brainwashing us, the “consumer”, the public, to believe what they want us to. Let us look past headlines and deal with just a bit of reality in this new decade. We have our own outlets now. We don’t have to believe everything anymore. Now I’ll figure out a way to make that rhyme LOL!
