Despite reports that Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri are getting back together, the singer referred to Dupri as her “ex” in an interview on Atlanta’s The Bert Show.

That doesn’t mean they’re not close still. While chatting with the radio show, Jackson included Dupri on the short list of ex-boyfriends with whom she keeps in touch.

“I’m not the type of girl that stays in touch with your ex,” Janet Jackson said. “But Jermaine is one of my best friends. I love him to death. We’re still connected.”

“We’re still good friends. We still talk.”

Jermaine Dupri and Janet Jackson remain broken up, but tight.

It has been a tough year for Jackson since her brother Michael’s death in June – which she blamed on Dr. Conrad Murray during an interview with ABC this week.

A month after MJ died, she and Dupri broke off their eight-year relationship. They reportedly reunited in September for Dupri’s birthday in Lake Como, Italy.

“There is a still a lot of love there,” a friend of the couple said, and for once, this anonymous Us Weekly source may not be too far off the mark at all.

“We’re absolutely still there for one another,” Jackson said.

“I think it will remain that way for the rest of my life.”

Janet Jackson Jermaine Dupri

Jermaine Dupri and Janet Jackson are no longer an item.  That’s the reason he wasn’t at Michael’s funeral.

Dupri told people he didn’t go to Michael Jackson’s funeral because he just didn’t attend funerals.  However, UsWeekly has reported that Dupri didn’t attend because he is no longer with Janet Jackson.  Sources went on to say, “You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure.  Janet felt their lives were too crossed and they should have kept things separate.  Jermaine likes to be out there, mingling with everybody, and Janet’s more shy.”

Well it is about time Janet got rid of that ugly ass.  Although, in this difficult time for her, she may need him around.

Needless to say, it’s been a difficult month for Janet Jackson.

At the memorial service for her late brother, there were rumblings about the absence of longtime boyfriend Jermaine Dupri and we can now confirm why: the couple has broken up.

“His friends are telling people it’s over,” a source told Us Weekly, while another chimed in: “They have been moving in different directions for a while.”

So, what was the cause of the break-up? Conflict over the fact that Dupri produced several of Jackson’s recent singles, reportedly.

“You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure,” said a friend. “Janet felt their lives were too crossed and they should have kept things separate.”

As for Janet’s reaction to brother Michael’s death? Things haven’t gotten any easier for her, said a source close to the situation.

“She’s devastated. She’s busy caring for Michael’s kids. Janet’s the family’s backbone.”

As the country edges toward near-historic unemployment numbers, you can add one more name to the list of those looking for a new job: Jermaine Dupri. According to Variety, the producer/rapper has reportedly ended his brief tenure as the president of the Island Records Urban Music department.

Rumored for months, the split is said to have taken place on Thursday and follows the departure of Dupri’s longtime girlfriend, Janet Jackson, from the label. Jackson broke ties with Island Def Jam in late 2008, after her latest album, Discipline, posted disappointing sales of less than 500,000. Dupri’s personal publicist and a label representative did not return e-mails seeking comment.

Dupri had also split with Virgin Urban Music shortly after Jackson left her previous longtime label home, Virgin Records, following similarly disappointing sales of her 2006 effort, 20 Y.O.

Dupri took over the Urban department at IDJ in February of 2007; the division was created shortly before he came onboard. Among the major initiatives under his watch was the creation in April of Tag Records, a joint venture with Procter & Gamble’s Tag body spray that helped cross-promote acts like Q Da Kid in Tag advertisements. It was not known at press time how Dupri’s exodus would effect his So So Def roster, which has been distributed through Island Urban since 2007.

In addition to Jackson’s underperforming album, several other records Dupri oversaw during his time at IDJ failed to catch fire, including Jagged Edge’s Baby Makin’ Project.

A blown tire is being investigated as the possible cause for the jet crash that killed four people and seriously injured DJ AM and former blink-182 drummer Travis Barker this weekend in South Carolina. A cockpit recording indicates that the crew thought a tire blew while taking off, after which attempts to abort take-off failed. The crash took the lives of the pilot and co-pilot along with Barker’s assistant and bodyguard. According to a witness, AM and Barker were discovered “in the street near the fiery wreck as they frantically tried to douse their burning clothes.” Officials are waiting to talk to the two musicians before assessing the cause of crash. Meanwhile, the pair were visited in a Georgia hospital yesterday by Jermaine Dupri, Mandi Moore and Barker’s ex-wife Shanna Moakler, who said in a statement, “There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this very difficult time. We can only ask for prayers as we heal and mourn the loss of our dear friends who we considered part of our family. Our lives will be changed forever.”
