Barring any more courthouse surprises, Lil Wayne is expected to finally begin serving his one-year sentence behind bars starting today. Before he heads to New York’s Riker’s Island, however, Weezy had one more going-away present for fans: his latest video off the rap-rock disc Rebirth, “Drop the World” with guest Eminem. The video was originally scheduled to premiere on MTV on March 11th, but the Internet unofficially debuted the Chris Robinson-directed clip a week early.
With its chorus “I’mma pick the world up and I’mma drop it on your fucking head,” it makes sense that the theme of the video is pure destruction. Warriors-like mobs flood urban alleyways pulverizing everything in sight for no clear reason, with Weezy F. Baby rapping unscathed in the middle of the chaos. Eminem joins the melee two-thirds of the way in to rap side-by-side with Wayne. The video ends with the entire world aflame, adding “Drop the World” to the growing number of post-apocalyptic videos to premiere in the last half year, like Jay-Z’s “Run This Town,” the Black Eyed Peas’ “Imma Be Rocking that Body” and Adam Lambert’s “Time for Miracles.”
Lil Wayne’s World: look back at the rapper’s rise in photos.
Even though Weezy will be spending the next year in prison, this will hardly be the last video we see featuring the multiplatinum star in the next 365 days. As Rolling Stone reported in our “Lil Wayne Goes to Jail” cover story, Wayne has filmed anywhere between 10 to 20 videos in front of a green screen in anticipation of his time away — including one for his guest spot on Drake’s Thank Me Later — ensuring we’ll have plenty of Tha Carter during his prison stint. We’re willing to bet the “Listen to Lil Wayne” shirt Weezy wears in the clip also becomes a popular fashion statement while the rapper is serving his sentence.

Eminem and Kim Mathers have been married twice.
In 2000, a year after they first tied the knot, Kim attempted suicide and then sued the rapper for defamation after he sung about her violent death in the single “Kim.”
The couple remarried in 2006, only to divorce again three months later. Eminem once said: “I’d rather have a baby through my penis than get married again;” while Kim has referred to her ex as being “unathletic” in bed.
In other words: this has been a rocky relationship. Which makes the following rumor entirely possible.
Star Magazine reports that Eminem and Kim aren’t just back together; they’re expecting a child together this spring! Said a source:
“When he came into Kim’s life again in a romantic way, she was floored. Kim’s pregnancy is going smoothly.”
That’s more than we can say about the past between this pair. But, hey, best of luck to them!
From suicide attempts to lawsuits to small penis references, Eminem and Kim Mathers have been through a lot.

Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and Barbra Streisand are just a handful of the 100-plus stars scheduled to take part in a re-recording of “We Are the World” to benefit Haiti, producer RedOne told Rolling Stone yesterday at the Grammys. Other artists contributing to the new “We Are the World” — a remake of the 1985 USA for Africa charity single that was co-written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie — include Celine Dion, Fergie, Wyclef, Enrique Iglesias and more musicians who attended yesterday’s 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.
“I’m so delighted and so happy to get a dream call from Quincy Jones and Randy Phillips and Lionel Richie,” RedOne told RS. “I know that Lionel Richie has been asked like 150-something times to redo ‘We Are the World’ and he said no to everything until this Haiti thing happened. The moment he saw that it happened he was like, OK, ‘We Are the World.’ And to be one of the people they called to have fresh input to the song, to help produce the song — I have no words.”

According to RedOne, recording of the “We Are the World” remake will take place today in a Los Angeles studio. In addition to the all-star vocal talent, RedOne promises instrumentation from the likes of Orianthi (the guitarist for Michael Jackson’s This Is It show) and other big-name musicians. The AP reports Bono, Jason Mraz and Akon are also slated to appear on the track. “With music you want to help people feel something in a certain way, and this is something devastating that just happened and I am and we are the world,” RedOne said. “We’re going to be helping people that we don’t know. I have Haitian friends and stuff like that, but we’re going to be helping people that need help right now.”

Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker will come together for a “special performance” on this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, the official Grammy Twitter revealed this morning. Based on the talent involved, it’s safe to assume the rappers will perform a rocked-up rendition of their hit “Forever,” which was overlooked in for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. However, the fourth rapper featured on that track, Kanye West, was not added as a performer, even though West is a nominee on three of the five songs that are up for the Best Rap Collaboration Grammy. Perhaps producers feared another “incident.” As it stands now, the performance will also likely be Lil Wayne’s last major television appearance before he heads off to prison in February.
Check out all of Rolling Stone’s essential Grammy coverage.
Sunday night’s show will feature Green Day performing alongside the cast of their American Idiot musical, as well as a tribute to guitarist Les Paul featuring Jeff Beck and Imelda May. Elton John, Roberta Flack and Jennifer Nettles have joined the lineup of performers. And the Grammys also announced this head-scratching combo: Jamie Foxx and T-Pain performing with Slash and Doug E. Fresh.
The Grammys have a long history of unlikely collaborations, and last year’s ceremony perhaps boasted the most eclectic team-ups in the show’s 52-year history. Sometimes the experiment pays off: last year’s highlights include Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl performing the Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There,” Radiohead’s “15 Step” with the USC Marching Band, the 11th-hour duet between Justin Timberlake and Al Green, and Coldplay’s version of “Lost!” with Jay-Z.
Look back at the 2009 Grammys in photos.
Past Grammys have also featured Madonna teaming with Gorillaz and Kanye West coaxing Daft Punk out for Music’s Biggest Night. However, the Grammys have also been guilty of mismatching talents, as last year’s awkward Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder pairing demonstrated.
Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Green Day, Pink, Dave Matthews Band, Bon Jovi and the Black Eyed Peas will also perform at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, which will also feature a special 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson featuring Celine Dion, Usher and Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson. Commercials on CBS leading up to Grammys also promise a special duet to kick off the show, and rumor has it a Beyoncé/Gaga performance of The Fame Monster’s “Telephone” could be in the cards. Beyoncé also kicked off the 2004 Grammys with a special performance with Prince.

“Rocket Man” Elton John has revealed that he’s helping rapper pal Eminem cope with substance abuse issues, staying by the “Slim Shady” charttopper’s side as he recovers from an addiction to prescription drugs.
The “Candle In The Wind” crooner and the reformed homophobe have become firm friends since they performed “Stan” together at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
Eminem — now 37 — battled a reliance on Ambien, Vicodin and Valium, and Elton has faced his own issues with substance abuse in the past.
“I’ve been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he’s doing brilliantly,” Sir Elton told The BBC early Saturday. “I’m there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go, but there’s no point advising people if they don’t want to do it,” the 62-year-old said.
Last May, Em revealed that he called on Sir Elton when he wanted to get sober.
“Me and him have had similar lives and stuff,” he told The Detroit Metro Times at the time. “He understands … the pressure and any other reasons that you want to come up with for doing drugs.”

Even though Lil Wayne’s Rebirth was delayed — yet again — songs continue to leak off Weezy’s rap-rock project. Today brings perhaps one of the most anticipated tracks from the oft-postponed LP: “Drop the World,” Wayne’s collaboration with Eminem. Listen to the track over at Nah Right. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Rebirth wrapped up its year of aborted 2009 release dates by pushing back from December 21st to February 1st, or so it stands now.
The song starts off slowly with icy synths pacing Weezy’s sing-rapping, but things finally pick up when the chorus hits, as Wayne yells, “Bitch, I’ma pick the world up and I’m gonna drop it on your fucking head” over a bed of nu-metallic guitars and keys straight out of T.I.’s Paper Trail. Weezy and Slim Shady previously appeared together on the all-star track “Forever,” and just like that on that song, Eminem’s contribution stands out as the clear highlight of “Drop the World,” as he brings a furious verse that we can only hope is emblematic of the work Em might pack onto Relapse 2 in 2010.
Lil Wayne’s World: photos of the rapper’s rise.
“Drop the World” is the third song in as many weeks to supposedly leak off of Rebirth, an album that has seen so many singles and leaks drop on and off its ever-changing track list that it’s unclear what the state of the album is at this point. Two songs that appeared on the Amazon.co.uk track list for the album, “Da Da Da” and the Scarface-sampling “On Fire,” were both released as digital singles, while previous leaks like “Hot Revolver” and “Fix My Hat” have all but disappeared. The one mainstay throughout this entire Rebirth ordeal, “Prom Queen,” first appeared back on January 27th.
As a consolation, Lil Wayne did release the excellent No Ceilings mixtape as a bridge between delays. If and when Rebirth is released, among the guests reportedly joining Eminem include Lenny Kravitz, Travis Barker and Drake.
UPDATE: Now we know how “Drop the World” leaked: According to reports on the Amazon Reviews page, some people who preordered Rebirth via Amazon have already received their copies before the e-tailer could call back the prematurely sent orders following Relapse’s postponement last week. According to Billboard, of the million copies that were ready to be shipped for its December 21st release date, only about 500 copies of Rebirth have made it out into the wild thanks to Amazon, though it only takes one copy to leak an album. As of press time, it’s unclear whether the release will once again be pushed up, if the track list on the February 1st Rebirth will be different or if 500 Weezy fans now own a pretty cool collector’s item.

Adam Lambert is taking an reported slam from Eminem in his stride. The American Idol runner-up is believed to have targeted in a homophobic slur made by the outspoken rap star in a verse off his latest single, “Elevator.”
The lyrics in question allegedly attack Adam alongside fellow openly-gay crooners Clay Aiken and Lance Bass: “They get so mad, when I call them both fake. It’s all these f*****g voices in my head, I can’t take it. Someone shut that f*****g baby up, before I shake it.”
Rather than complain, Adam — no stranger to controversy himself — is taking the slur as a compliment.
“If you get mentioned in an Eminem song, you’re doing something right – and I’m sure he was planning on creating some controversy, because he is a smart guy,” the “For Your Entertainment” star, 27, told MTV News Wednesday.
