DJ AM, Adam Goldstein, was found dead in New York this afternoon. He was in his bed shirtless and wearing sweatpants. Apparently, drug paraphernalia was found in the room. Prescription pill bottles were found near his body, and a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs were also found in the room.
DJ AM was a survivor in a plane crash with Travis Barker last September. Adam Goldstein was an amazing DJ! He had struggled with his weight, and he had ungergone gastric bypass surgery. He dated Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore.
Goldstein’s body was found at 5:20 pm. Nobody had heard from Goldstein for a couple of days, so friends contacted police. An odd odor came from his New York apartment prior to the police breaking down his door.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Goldstein. This is such a tragedy.
R.I.P. Adam Goldstein (DJ A.M.)
Update: A source on the scene claims there was a glass “crack pipe” found in Goldstein’s room and pill bottles found in the kitchen. Goldstein had been sober for 9 years; however, he had recently broken-up with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood. The couple split last week, and Wood apparently broke off the relationship. Goldstein was “devastated.” He was also still having a hard time dealing with post-traumatic stress from the plane crash he survived last year. With all of his stress, Goldstein probably gave into his demons and started using drugs again. Sad and unfortunate. The world lost an amazing talent.

DJ AM (born Adam Goldstein) filed suit on Tuesday over the fiery plane crash that killed four people and seriously injured him and Travis Barker in September. AM claimed in the suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court that as the private Lear jet reached takeoff speed, the pilots realized that one or more of the tires had blown and that they aborted the takeoff, causing the plane to overrun the runway and crash into an embankment. Barker took similar legal action last month.
According to a copy of the suit obtained by TMZ, the filing contends that, “Rather than proceed to takeoff, they decided to abort and/or reject the takeoff in a negligent manner.”
“The pilots were either poorly trained and/or failed to follow their training,” the suit alleges, according to another report on People.com.
The legal action also alleges that the plane was “defective, not fit for its intended purposes and unreasonably dangerous.”
Due to the aborted take-off, the plane overshot the runway, crossed a highway and crashed and burst into flames, taking the lives of the pilot, Sarah Lemmon, and co-pilot, James Bland, as well as Barker’s close friend and personal assistant, “Lil” Chris Baker and bodyguard, Charles “Che” Still.
AM’s suit names the estates of the two pilots, as well as Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel & Services Inc., Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and Learjet. Baker’s widow has filed a lawsuit against a similar list of defendants.
According to TMZ, AM — who, like Barker, suffered severe burns in the incident — is suing for pain and suffering, lost earnings, property damage, past and future medical and health-related expenses, and punitive damages. Barker has filed a similar suit, as has the mother of Still, though neither of those actions named the pilots’ estates as defendants.
