Kate Gosselin, of the reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” released a statement to ET explaining her split with her husband Jon and the initial divorce papers that were filed on Monday. “Over the course of this weekend, Jon’s activities have left me no choice but to file legal procedures in order to protect myself and our children,” Kate’s statement reads. “While there are reasons why it was appropriate and necessary for me to initiate this proceeding, I do not wish to discuss those reasons at this time, in the hope that all issues will be resolved amicably between Jon and myself. As always, my first priority remains our children.” On Monday’s episode of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” the couple disclosed that they would share custody of their children, and planned to continue filming the reality series. They stressed that the children would stay in the family home, a large estate recently purchased by the Gosselins, with each parent switching off living there with the children. TLC confirmed to ET that Jon and Kate’s show will go on hiatus following a retrospective episode of the couple’s ten year marriage that will air on June 29. The program will not return until August 3. “During this time the family will take some time off to regroup and then a modified schedule will be in place to support the family’s transition,” the TLC statement reads. “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ airs on TLC Mondays at 9 p.m. (EST/PST).
