ABC has given full season orders to three new comedies – Modern Family, Cougar Town and The Middle.
There’s no word yet on the fourth ABC comedy Hank starring Kelsey Grammer, which hasn’t done as well in ratings or critical response as the other shows.
At the top of the list by ratings is Modern Family, one of the best received new comedies of the fall and touted as the No. 1 best show by many; followed by Cougar Town starring Courtney Cox; and The Middle stars Patricia Heaton.
ABC also hasn’t made decisions yet on highly hyped drama FlashForward (should be a shoe-in), comedy-drama Eastwick and drama The Forgotten (starring Christian Slater).
To me, I would rather the networks give shows a chance to grow instead of canning them before they even gain a following. With so many new shows on TV this fall, viewers need time to take things in and fit new shows into their schedule. Why spend the money to get these shows off the ground if they aren’t given the chance they deserve?
